Single-layer diaphragm
Single-ply roofing stands out as the most economical and practical option for commercial buildings. This waterproofing system is designed for easy installation and maximum efficiency, while providing secure attachment of the membrane and thermal insulation thanks to a complete range of special plates and fasteners.
Experts for perfect installation
Choosing a quality roof covering for a quality flat roof is essential to ensure the structure’s waterproofing and protection against weather conditions. When it comes to selecting a new roof covering, there are several factors to consider to make it a profitable investment over the long term.
At Toiture Couvreur Rive-Sud, we’re experts in the installation and repair of flat roofs. Our team of roofers provides impeccable service, guaranteeing long-lasting results.
Characteristics of single-layer waterproofing
A single-layer waterproofing system consists of a single layer of material, at least 4 mm thick.
Designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions, ultraviolet rays and impacts, it is ideally suited to flat or low-slope roofs. When renovating flat roofs, this type of membrane can be installed provided it is compatible with the existing waterproofing.
This solution can be applied in place of the two-layer waterproofing often proposed for roofing work. Current regulations authorize this substitution in most situations, with the exception of green roofs, which require a special covering to protect against roots. This solution reduces installation costs while guaranteeing high-quality performance and longevity for your flat roofs.
In addition to its economic advantages, single-ply roofing offers significant ecological benefits. Its adoption reduces waste production and minimizes on-site intervention, making it a wise choice for construction or renovation sites.
A sustainable and ecological solution
Opting for a single-ply membrane means choosing an innovative, high-performance, environmentally-friendly roof. With their simple installation, high strength and longevity, these membranes are an ideal solution for guaranteeing the durability of your roof, while reducing the risk of water infiltration and optimizing maintenance costs over the long term.
Benefits of single-layer waterproofing

Single-ply membrane: excellence in sustainable waterproofing
The single-ply membrane is a modern, high-performance roofing solution, ideal for waterproof protection of your buildings. This cladding system involves the application of a single layer of material, for uniform, resistant coverage. Among the most widely used options are TPO (thermoplastic) and EPDM (synthetic rubber) membranes, which are applied using specific techniques:
- Thermoplastics melt at high temperatures;
- Thermosets harden at high temperatures and require the use of glue to fix joints.
Innovative monolayer membrane technologies: EPDM and TPO
The two main types of single-ply membranes, EPDM and TPO, are renowned for their robustness and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
- EPDM: Made from synthetic rubber, this membrane is extremely resistant to thermal variations. It is formulated with a combination of ethylene, diene and propylene, making it highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and humidity. It lasts up to 35 years, providing a reliable long-term solution.
- TPO: Composed of ethylene-propylene rubber, this coating also contains additive materials such as fiberglass, talc and carbon, giving it high puncture and tear resistance. Although more recent, TPO technology is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its high-performance characteristics and estimated 30-year service life.
These two categories of membrane provide outstanding protection against the elements and long-lasting waterproofing, making them the preferred solutions for commercial projects.
